Free tools / Video to GIF

Turn a video into a GIF.

Make a shareable GIF from any clip — for chats, docs, or posts where video won't embed. Colors are built with a proper two-pass palette, so it looks clean, not dithered to death. Converts up to the first 15 seconds (GIFs get huge fast).

How it works.

  1. 1

Drop in a video — a short clip works best.

  2. 2

The first 15 seconds convert with an optimized color palette.

  3. 3

Download a GIF that plays everywhere, even where video can't.

Questions, answered.

Why only 15 seconds?

GIF is a wildly inefficient format — 15 seconds is already several megabytes. For anything longer, share the MP4 instead (it'll be smaller AND sharper).

Why does my GIF look better than other converters'?

We generate a custom 256-color palette from your actual footage (a two-pass encode) instead of using a generic palette — that's the difference between clean gradients and speckled noise.

What size is the GIF?

480px wide at 12 frames per second — the sweet spot for chats and embeds. Expect a few MB for a few seconds of footage.
